RockMelt browser comes aboard mobile devices; launches for iPad

RockMelt browser comes aboard mobile devices; launches for iPadTwo years after remaining a desktop-specific product, the 2010-launched speedy RockMelt web browser has now come aboard mobile devices; with the first device to get the browser being the popular Apple iPad.

When the RockMelt browser was initially launched for desktop users, the key objective behind the product was to amalgamate the online social connections of the users with their day-to-day web browsing experience; with feeds from Facebook friends featuring on their home page in a fairly uncluttered manner.

Developed on the foundation of Chromium, the technology that powers the speedy Google Chrome browser, the RockMelt browser is backed by Internet pioneer Marc Andreessen, the man who led the way in the browser business with Mosaic, way back in the early 1990s.

With the RockMelt browser now making its foray into the mobile arena, the Silicon Valley firm behind the product has revealed that the launch of the browser, initially for the iPad, was a feat which was accomplished in eight months.

The mobile version of the RockMelt browser is fairly akin to its desktop counterparts - the PC and Mac versions -, with RockMelt for iPad being social as well as fun to look at.

Noting that RockMelt browser is an extremely appealing blend of interface designs of the Facebook Timeline, the Pinterest tiles, and the ever-flowing Twitter stream, RockMelt CEO Eric Vishria said: "It is unquestionably a really different beast. And that is a good thing."
