Rs 10 cr seized from VHP leader’s possession in JaipurIn a key onslaught against the tax evaders, the Income Tax Department on Wednesday recovered cash worth Rs 10 crore and jewellery worth Rs 57 lakh from the possession of financial broker and well-known VHP leader Damodar Modi.

A team of I-T sleuths led by Additional Director of Income Tax Prasannjeet Singh made the recovery after raiding two residential premises and an office complex of Modi.

This is considered as one of the highest cash seizure ever made in Rajasthan by the IT department.

Speaking with the media persons, Prasannjeet Singh said: “We have seized Rs 10 crore in cash and jewellery worth Rs 57 lakh from the premises of the financial broker.”

Singh added that the raids were conducted on these premises on Monday morning and the assessment and the valuation took almost two days.

Meanwhile, VHP general secretary Giriraj Kishore said that Modi is a member of the VHP, but he does not hold any post in the organization.

“This is his business, in which money comes in the evening and goes out by the evening. He must be keeping receipts of the transactions. This looks like political vendetta,’’ added Kishore.

The IT department had recently seized Rs 9.35 crore in cash from a jeweller in Jaipur.
