Saab trying to reduce costs of power trains and vehicle platforms

Saab trying to reduce costs of power trains and vehicle platformsIt was in talks with producers to reduce costs of power trains and vehicle platforms, automaker Saab, after cutting a ribbon to open its U. S. headquarters, said.

"Saab has tended to cooperate on components and expect we will see more of that," Saab President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Colleran said, at the Royal Oak, Mich., ceremony, attended by local and foreign diplomats.

The Detroit News reported on Wednesday that the company has 200 U. S. dealers and expects at least 25 percent of its annual volume of 65,000 vehicles will be sold in the United States.

General Motors Co., which emerged from bankruptcy last summer, completed the $74 million sale of Saab to Dutch luxury automaker Spyker Cars NV earlier this year.

It was also reported that the new headquarters is expected to hire 60 employees, a figure projected to jump to 158 by 2014.

Royal Oak Mayor, Jim Ellison, said, "To have an organization like Saab set up in our little tiny town, it's exciting." (With Inputs from Agencies)
