Amid a volatile session of trading the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index Sensex closed 21.35 points or 0.12 per cent higher at 18,666.71 on Wednesday. Weak Asian cues played spoilsport for the India stock market during the day.
The remained widely volatile as it swung between a comparative high range of around 200 points. While it scaled a peak of 18,721 points, 18,504 remained the lowest point that Sensex touched on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the broad-based NSE nifty closed almost flat at 5,607.85 registering a increase of 3.85 points or 0.07 per cent.
However, the market breadth remained fairly positive as 18 out of 30 Sensex constituents ended the day in with a positive note. ACC with a surge of 2.98 per cent to Rs. 991.40, Bharti Airtel with 2.59 per cent rise at Rs. 352.15 per share and public sector bank SBI with a 2.07 per cent rise to Rs2, 894.20 per share remained the top Sensex gainers for the day.
Anil Ambani-led Reliance Infra remained the biggest loser for the day. The stock fell 1.77 per cent to shut shop at Rs. 1, 023.25 a unit.
