Singh and Glover set early clubhouse lead on day two at Hazeltine

Singh and Glover set early clubhouse lead on day two at Hazeltine Hazeltine, Minnesota - US Open champion Lucas Glover and former champion Vijay Singh set the early clubhouse target on day two of the US PGA Championship as they reached the halfway point on 3- under-par.

The two were tied with Australian Brendan Jones but still two shots behind the leader Tiger Woods, who was just beginning his second round, with defending champion Padraig Harrington alongside him one shot behind on 4-under.

Singh fired a level-par 72 while Glover and Jones both hit 2- under-par 70s, but both Singh and Glover will regret bogeying their last hole, the 9th, having reached 4-under- par at one stage.

Jones moved into contention thanks to an eagle two at the par-four 14th hole and parred his way home to finish on 3-under.

Englishman Ian Poulter also moved into contention after a 70 to finish on 2-under, while Ernie Els hit form with a 68 to be one shot further back on 1-under.

World number two Phil Mickelson was in severe danger of missing the halfway cut after a second consecutive 74 left him 4-over-par.

It could have been a lot worse for the American, though, whose eagle at the par-five 7th hole at least put him closer to the likely cut mark.(dpa)
