Mexico City - Four people were killed in the northern Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez and two others in the western city of Uruapan, in incidents apparently linked to organized crime, the authorities said Thursday.

The incident in Ciudad Juarez, in the northern state of Chihuahua and just across the border from the United States, happened Thursday and also left two people severely injured.

Chihuahua police official Enrique Torres told the German Press Agency dpa that the six - who remained unidentified - were surprised by their attackers as they rested at a hotel. They were attacked with long weapons.

In the early hours of Thursday, a minor and a police officer were killed in Uruapan, in the western state of Michoacan, in an attack on a food stand.

Local police said that grenades and powerful rifles were used from a moving vehicle in the attack, which also left about 10 injured, some of them seriously.

The "taco" stand was virtually destroyed because one of the grenades reportedly caused a gas tank to explode.

Over 8,200 people - including hundreds of police and military officers - have been killed in Mexico since January 2008 in incidents linked to organized crime.(dpa)
