The South London Healthcare Trust [SLHT] has been named in the list of most complained about units under the NHS system in the UK in a new report by the NHS Ombudsman.
The south London body was listed tenth in the list of most complained about health bodies in the country. The trust received 95 complaints in 2010-2011, recording a rise from 88 in 2009-2010.
Two of the complaints were resolved through interventions and four were accepted for investigation. Another five complaints were reported on and about every 4 in five complaints were upheld.
Ombudsman Ann Abraham said that process of dealing with complaints at the NHS can be described as being “patchy and slow.” She said, “The NHS is still not dealing adequately with the most straightforward matters.”
Problems with clinical care and treatment and poor communication were the most common reasons for complaints. Meanwhile, the most common reasons for being dissatisfied were poor explanations and no acknowledgement of mistakes by the NHS.
A spokesperson from SLHT said that the trust takes complaints seriously and works towards bettering the services for patients. The SLHT was formed after the merger of Queen Mary's Sidcup NHS Trust, Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Trust and Bromley Hospitals NHS Trust in 2009.
