A Versova police team arrested the 25-year-old son of Munir Khan — wanted in several cheating cases — and 14 others for manhandling a police team that went to Khan’s Yari Road clinic to arrest him.

The police said Khan, who claims to be a world famous scientist has several cases of cheating and violation of Food and Drug Administration norms registered against him.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Dilip Suryavanshi said that Khan’s application for an anticipatory bail was rejected by the Session’s court a fortnight ago.

“When our personnel went to arrest him, Munir’s son Munish and 14 of his guards and staff members prevented us from entering the clinic.”

The police have arrested the 15 persons including five women who will be produced in court on Wednesday.

Sources said Khan, who was a doctor’s assistant, attached ‘Dr’ to his name and advertised his medicines on television channels and in magazines. The Income Tax department had also raided his posh, two-floor office on Yari Road, earlier this year.

Police said Khan had made a fortune selling illegal medicines that he claimed could cure all diseases from a common cold to cancer and AIDS.

“He sold each bottle for Rs 15,600. And patients who would be impressed seeing him on television would buy the medicine after standing in a queue for hours,” said a police officer requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

The police said Munish, who claims to be a television actor, helps Khan run the business.
