‘Tearaway’ Tait to focus only on T20 to prolong career

Melbourne, Jan 9 : Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait has turned his back on the longer version of the game in a bid to prolong his career and target the lucrative field of Twenty20 cricket.

Tait is best suited to short-burst bowling spells where his speed and swing can be destructive.

“No, not at all,” Tait said when asked if he wanted to return to the longer form of the game.

“Like I said, the decision was pretty solid and at the moment I think there is no point going back into the four-day thing and not so much tiring myself, but ... putting myself at risk of injury again,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Tait, as saying.

Tait risks long-term injury and future earnings by playing a full Sheffield Shield season and also fears further criticism if his body breaks down.

“You go one way and you do that and you get injured and everyone labels you as injury prone. If you don’t do it then they say, ‘Why aren’t you playing four-day cricket?’ So you can’t win any way, so it doesn’t really matter,” Tait said.

Tait could become a multi-million-dollar superstar in the IPL, Champions League and County Twenty20 circuit.

Stepping away from first-class cricket and the majority of South Australia’s one-day games has meant Tait is finally fresh and fit.

“This is the best my body has felt for two years and I think it’s been a solid decision,” he said. (ANI)
