34th National Games to be held Feb 12-26, 2011

IOARanchi, Dec 4 : The long-postponed 34th National Games, originally scheduled for 2007, will be held in the Jharkhand capital Feb 12 to 26, 2011.

"The National Games will take place from Feb 12 to 26 next year. All necessary arrangements have been made to conduct the games," Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda Saturday told reporters after a meeting of National Games Organising Committee (NGOC) here.

Apart from Munda, the NGOC chairman, Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Sudesh Mahto, Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) president R. K. Anand and others were also present in the meeting.

The 34th National Games have been deferred six times - four times due to delay in developing infrastructure.

Finally after all the arrangements were in place, they were slated for Nov 21-Dec 5, 2009 but postponed for the fifth time due to the assembly polls. The next date was Dec 9-22, 2010 but the event was again postponed due to the rural local bodies elections in the state.(IANS)
