AIFF says only three foreigners in playing eleven

AIFF says only three foreigners in playing eleven New Delhi, Aug 17 : The All India Football Federation (AIFF) said Tuesday that I-league clubs can register four foreigners, including one of Asian origin, but can field only three in the playing eleven.

According to a top official in the AIFF, the resolution was taken by the executive committee to reduce the dependence of the clubs on the foreigners in the domestic tournaments.

"The resolution was first taken for the I-League, but then the executive committee felt that it should be the same for all other tournaments as well. There was always a concern on the number of foreigners players in the I-League and now more home grown players will get the opportunity," the official told IANS on condition of anonymity.

The decision to register four foreigners was taken by the AIFF last year after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) allowed football clubs in the continent to register four foreign players including one of Asian origin into their squad.(IANS)
