Akram says doctors were more interested in making money than saving wife’s life

Lahore, Dec. 12 : Angry and hurt over the non-professional attitude of the doctors who treated his wife, legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram has said that they (doctors) were only interested in making fast money than curing his wife Huma Akram, who died in October due to multiple organ failure.

Wasim blamed doctors in Lahore of keeping him in the dark about his wife’s ailment, saying they failed to diagnose the real problem.

“The doctors of Lahore hospitals took no pain while treating Huma and they failed to diagnose her ailment. They were more interested in making money as after their failure to cure Huma, they asked me to pay 150,000 dollars to arrange an air ambulance for her treatment in Singapore,” Wasim said.

He said that while the doctors claimed that Huma’s condition was improving, she didn’t show any signs of recovery.

“The consulting doctors were not available on phone and that was something highly disturbing for us,” Wasim told The Dawn.

When asked that whether he was satisfied with the government’s decision to cancel the licence of all the 17 doctors who were involved in her wife’s treatment, the former speedster said: “ Something has to be done to stop them (doctors) from being indifferent to patients.”

It may be noted that the Pakistan Health Ministry had suspended 17 doctors and cancelled their general practice licenses on charges of dereliction of duty leading to Huma Akram’s death.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health. (ANI)ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
