Beijing - The International Olympic Committee on Saturday promoted the four applicants Harbin (China), Innsbruck (Austria), Kuopia (Finland) and Lillehammer
(Norway) to official candidate cities for the first winter Youth Olympic Games.
"We are very pleased to have four excellent shortlisted candidates for the 1st Winter YOG ever," IOC President Jacques Rogge said in a statement.
The host city will be elected by postal vote among IOC members in December, with the announcement being made the same month.
Lillehammer and Innsbruck have hosted Winter Olympics in the past.
The 2012 youth event in snow and ice is to bring together 1,000 athletes aged 14-18.
Singapore was earlier this year elected host city of the first summer Youth Olympics in 2010.
The IOC said on Saturday that the athletes' village for the 3,500 participants in Singapore will be the at the Nanyang Technical University. (dpa)
