All European defences will be worried about stopping Liverpool: Rafa

Liverpool manager Rafa BenitezLondon, July 30: Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez reckons the whole of Europe will be running scared of his deadly Anfield strike force.

Rafa splashed out 20million pounds to link up Robbie Keane with Fernando Torres in an awesome-looking partnership.

Spaniard Rafa is licking his lips at the prospect of unleashing hell on defences across the continent. After landing Keane on a four-year deal from Spurs which, including wages will ultimately cost more than 35million pounds, Benitez insisted: “I think all the defences will be worried about stopping them.”

“Other managers and defenders will be trying to sign players but with Robbie, Fernando, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel we will have great presence. It will be a big problem for other teams to cope with, that’s for sure,” The Sun quoted Rafa, as saying.

“And it will be important for Fernando to have another player around who can score goals. We’ve signed a lot of young players to guarantee the future and sometimes when you’re very close, you need to sign experience and quality, too,” he added.

Keane, 28, certainly adds that extra touch which cost the Anfield giants dear at times last season.

If Torres had not enjoyed such a sensational debut season in the Premier League, Rafa’s Reds would have finished even further behind champions Manchester United.

The Spaniard believes his new boy’s versatility up front is like getting four players for the price of one.

Benitez added: “Robbie is a great pro with a good mentality and everyone here is really pleased to have him. He can play in three or four positions, and every one with experience and quality. He’s very clever on the right, up front on his own, or as a second striker.” (ANI)
