Madrid - Daniel Alves was presented to the media as a new Barcelona player on Wednesday afternoon to complete an expensive move from Spanish league rivals Sevilla.
Alves, 25, opened the prss conference by saying that "I am very happy to be here " in the Catalan language, which won him a round of applause from local reporters.
He then reverted to Spanish and claimed that "it is an honour to be at a club as great as Barcelona."
Barca paid Sevilla almost 30 million euros (47.3 million dollars) for the 25 year-old right-back, making him the most expensive defender in world football.
Alves defined himself as "an ambitious person, who wants to achieve important things."
He helped Sevilla to win two UEFA Cups and one Spanish cup in his impressive seven-year spell at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.
Alves is Barca's fifth summer signing, after fellow defenders Henrique, Gerard Pique, Martin Caceres and midfielder Seydou Keita. (dpa)
