Beijing - Belarussian Andrei Aramnau on Monday won the men's 105kg weightlifting event at the Beijing Olympics with a world record total of 436kg.
The 20-year-old also broke the world record for the snatch and the clean and jerk.
The reigning world champion lifted 200kg on his final attempt in the snatch and then managed 236kg in the clean and jerk.
The silver medal went to Russian Dmitriy Klokov, who had a total of 423kg, while Dmitry Lapikov took the bronze with 420kg.
Aramnau said that he had been hoping for the gold medal. "I have been preparing for a long time for this and there could have been no different result. This medal comprises all 20 years of my life.
"My first coach told me that I would become an Olympic champion at the age of 20, and that's what happened." (dpa)
