Madrid - Spainish football club Barcelona on Tuesday announced an agreement with Manchester United to sign defender Gerard Pique from the English champions.
Barca have not stated officially how much they will pay for tall defender, but Spanish media reports estimated the transfer fee at around five million euros (7.88 million dollars).
Pique, 21, is set to sign a four-year contract with Barca.
The Barcelona-born Pique joined the Barca youth sections in 1997 at the age of 10. In 2004 he was snapped up by United, but has failed to establish himself at Old Trafford.
During the 2006/2007 season, United loaned him out to Liga club Zaragoza, where he looked more sure of himself.
Pique is Barca's second signing of what promises to be a hectic summer. On Monday they announced the purchase of Mali midfielder Seydou Keita from Sevilla. (dpa)
