Madrid - Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres is about to become an Barcelona player in a move from Villarreal, the Catalan daily Sport said on its website on Tuesday.
Sport reported that Caceres will sign for Barca "in the next few hours", becoming their third summer signing after Seydou Keita (Sevilla) and Gerard Pique (Manchester United).
Sport suggested that Barca will pay Villarreal around 17 million euros (26.42 million dollars) for Caceres.
Caceres, 21, was on loan from Villarreal to Recreativo Huelva last season, and created a good impression with his positional sense, timing and strength in the air.
Barca are keen to reinforce their defence because Argentine Gabriel Milito will be out of action until January at least after undergoing a knee ligament operation. (dpa)
