Basit Ali demands disbanding of ICC’s anti corruption unit in present format

Islamabad, Sep 1 : Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali has called for disbanding the International Cricket Council’s Anti Corruption Unit in its present format over its ineffectiveness.

Ali, who represented Pakistan on 69 occasions between 1993 and 1996, said: “What is the point of the Anti Corruption Unit, what has it actually achieved. It is a complete and utter waste of time in its current format.”

“The personnel of the Anti Corruption Unit don’t know about the game of cricket and therefore cannot spot match fixing, spot fixing or fancy fixing, even if it was happening right under their noses,” Basit told Pakpassion. net.

Basit’s recommendation to the ICC is to replace the Anti Corruption Unit with a panel of former experienced international cricketers.

“What the ICC needs to do is to form a panel of experienced cricketers to monitor the players in a match situation. These ex players have played the game at the highest level and can spot when things don’t appear to be right,” he said.

“I can help the ICC with recommendations of the players that should form the panel and would suggest former players such as Michael Holding, Ian Botham, Sunil Gavaskar and Javed Miandad, who have many years of experience in the game of cricket."

Basit claimed that corruption in cricket is still rife, despite the introduction of the Anti Corruption Unit.

He said that tosses, spot fixing and match fixing are still occurring regularly.

However, he doesn’t think that corruption in cricket is solely a problem for Pakistan, but a global issue. (ANI)
