Berlin, Nov 23 - Bundesliga record champions Bayern Munich wrapped up last 16 berth at UEFA Champions League with a dominant 3-1 performance at the Allianz Arena against Villarreal.
The "Bavarians" astonished Villarreal Tuesday night with an early goal as French midfielder Franck Ribery opened the scoring after he curled home an assist by midfielder Toni Kroos at the third minute. Striker Mario Gomez doubled the lead with a follow up shot from close distance in 24th minute.
Bayern controlled the match and with five minutes into second half, midfielder Jonathan de Guzman exploited a long cross to slot home from 16 metres.
Bayern remained unfazed and pilled on the pressure to establish their two point lead owing to Ribery who sealed his brace at the 69th minute.
Bayern sit on top of group A with 13 points followed by Naples with eight points, Manchester City with seven points and Villarreal with none. Bayern sealed the round of last 16 ahead of schedule at UEFA Champions League group stage. (IANS)
