Dortmund, Germany - Borussia Dortmund Monday apologized to Hoffenheim club owner Dietmar Hopp for abusive chants from a section of Dortmund fans in Sunday's Bundesliga game between the two sides.
Dortmund said it would also be supporting an investigation by police who arrested one Dortmund fan for holding up a banner with Hopp portrayed as a target in the sights of a gun.
Dortmund were beaten 4-1 in Mannheim, a temporary home ground for Hoffenheim.
Borussia Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke said: "What happened in Mannheim was embarrassing, shameful and degrading.
"We will do everything to make sure that people who offend under the guise of being Borussia fans no longer damage the name of the club."
Hopp, the co-founder of software giant SAP and one of Germany's wealthiest men, has invested millions in taking village team Hoffenheim into Germany's highest league.
It is not the first time this season that 68-year-old Hopp has been subject to abuse from opposing teams' fans who resent the club's success. (dpa)
