Birmingham, Aug 11 : English pacer Tim Bresnan differed with Indian coach Duncan Fletcher's observation that the Edgbaston pitch assisted a lot of swing and seam and hoped that the hosts will soon be able to take a first innings lead in the third cricket Test.
The formidable Indian batting has repeatedly been found struggling in the English condition and on the opening day Wednesday was reduced to 111/7 before skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's rapid 77 saved them the embarrassment.
The visitors were wrapped up for 224 with England scoring an imposing 84/0 at the close.
Fletcher, who was a former England coach, attributed his batsmen's poor performance to tough conditions before adding he has never seen pitches swing and seam so much the way it did in these three Test. Bresnan, however, said the pitch here "didn't really do that much".
"As a seamer you look at the wicket and think 'I'd prefer to bowl on there than watch someone bat on it'," he said.
"But it didn't really do that much. The pitch is playing all right, so hopefully we can get stuck in and get a lead. We were expecting it to be a bit quicker and seam a bit more - so it's a good effort.
"It'd help if the India fielders didn't have their hands in their pockets. It's not that cold. They need to look interested [in play] and show some desire. If you don't want to be here, go home"
"It swung a bit, but not like Trent Bridge did. So it was a case of building pressure. It's a great day's Test cricket for us," he said.
Bresnan and Stuart Broad took four wickets apiece and the Yorkshire bowler hailed England's "hunt-in-a pack mentality" for their success.
"There's definitely that 'hunting-in-a-pack' mentality, and we do enjoy each other's success," he said.
"It is good to watch your mate get a five or have a really good day with the bat. To stick them in and bowl them out for 224 and be 80-odd for none is a day you would take if you got offered it at start of play."
India trail 0-2 in the four-match series and will lose their World No. 1 ranking to England if they lose the third Test. (IANS)
