Rome - Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro was in Turin Monday to undergo medical tests ahead of a transfer to Juventus, Italian media reported.
Cannavaro, 35, was also visited at a clinic in Perugia on Sunday ahead of a signing later this week, it was reported.
His return to Juve is meant to beef up a defence that has often creaked this season, but could trigger criticism from fans who have not forgotten his 2006 departure when the Turin side were relegated to the Serie B for their role in a wide match-rigging scandal.
The 2006 FIFA world player said last week he does not feel he has betrayed anyone, claiming that Juve decided to sell him to Real.
As Real seem to have no intention of renewing his three-year contract this summer, Cannavaro considered ending his career at Napoli, but found no interest from the club from his native Naples.
Cannavaro, who captained Italy as they won their fourth World Cup in 2006, boasts 124 presences with the Azzurri, being second to AC Milan's Paolo Maldini, who closed his international career in 2002. (dpa)
