London - England captain John Terry and his Chelsea team-mate Ashley Cole will miss Wednesday's World Cup qualifier away to Belarus because of injury.
Terry has not recovered from the back problem that caused him to miss Saturday's 5-1 win over Kazakhstan, while Cole has picked up a hamstring injury.
"It is disappointing to lose two very experienced players in John Terry and Ashley Cole for the game in Belarus," England manager Fabio Capello said on Monday.
"Unfortunately they have no chance of playing, so it is best they return to Chelsea."
West Ham's Matthew Upson, who deputised for Terry on Saturday, could again partner stand-in captain Rio Ferdinand, while Wayne Bridge is likely to come in for Cole.
England stand top of European group six with three wins out of three matches. (dpa)
