Chennai Police to seek court's help for summoning Lalit Modi

Lalit-modiChennai, Feb 5 :  Chennai Police plans to approach a court against former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi, who is refusing to accept its summons to appear in person in a criminal complaint lodged by the Indian cricket board, a top police official said Saturday.

Speaking to reporters here, Chennai City Police Commissioner T. Rajendran said summons had been issued to seven people including Modi but only two - Kunal Das Gupta and Ajay Verma - had appeared before police to give their explanation.

Rajendran said police has given the other five time till Feb 15 and if they do not appear by then, the appropriate court would be moved for dishonouring the summons.

Modi had been asked to appear in person before the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on any one of the following dates - Jan 25, 27 and 28 - and clarify his position on a criminal complaint by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary N. Srinivasan, alleging misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs. 469 crore.(IANS)
