Clarke intent on maintaining momentum against New Zealand

Melbourne, Feb 24 : Australia Twenty20 captain Michael Clarke is intent on maintaining his side’s momentum heading towards the World Twenty20 when his team take on New Zealand.

The matches against the Black Caps in Wellington on Friday and in Christchurch on Sunday are Australia’s last competitive Twenty20 games before the World Twenty20 in the Caribbean in late April.

Australia leave their home international summer unbeaten after a busy schedule across all three forms of the game ending with the crushing eight-wicket T20 victory over West Indies at the SCG on Tuesday night.

“I spoke to the guys last night. The boys had a couple of beers and enjoyed what''s been a really good couple of days for us, beating the West Indies and topping off our summer,” FOX Sports quoted Clarke, as saying.

“I think it''s really important that we get on this plane and look forward to our first tour as a T20 team and try and continue our success. They are our last two games leading up to the World Cup, so I think it’s really important to continue to build that momentum going into the World Cup,” he said.

Clarke said Australia’s performances had been pretty good, but there was still plenty of room for improvement across all areas of their game.

He anticipated a strong challenge from New Zealand.

“They’ve got a good attack, they’ve got some good strikers of the ball, Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum and they''ve got a great captain, Dan Vettori, so we have to be at our best,” he said. (ANI)
