“I feel very elated like rest of India does. And, as we are moving closer to the game, we are both nervous and excited. Nervous because, we have to get lot of work done, which we hope we will, and excited because nothing like this has ever happened before in India," said Dixit, at the '2010 Countdown Run,' which was organised here on Sunday.

The XIX Commonwealth Games are 1,000 days away.

“We have lot of work to do, but everything would be done in time. Our general organisation plans are ready," Kalmadi said

The countdown run began from Vijay Chowk and ended at the India Gate, where the logo of the Games-- a spiralling 'Chakra' -- was also released.

Over 50,000 people participated in the race. Prominent sports personalities including Karnam Malleswari, Pullela Gopichand, Dhanraj Pillai, Manavjeet Singh, G S Randhawa, Khajan Singh, Shiny Wilson also participated in the race.

Athletes from Australia, England and some African countries also took part in the race.

New Delhi is to stage the 2010 Commonwealth Games at an estimated cost of Rs 70 billion. Delhi beat the Canadian city Hamilton in the bid for the games.

India wants the Commonwealth Games to boost its image as a global powerhouse. The games are also likely to provide rich pickings for real estate developers.
