Cristiano Ronaldo breaks George Best’s record of 32 goals in a season

London, Mar. 20: Cristiano RonaldoManchester United coach Alex Ferguson has hailed Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo after he broke George Best’s record of 32 goals in a season.

According to The Sun, Ronaldo took his tally to 33 for the season, going past the record set by Best 40 years ago.

Ronaldo was made skipper for the night by Ferguson and led by example as the champions coasted to victory.

And the Old Trafford boss paid a glowing tribute to the 23-year-old as he wrote his name into the club’s history books.

Fergie said: “Scoring that many goals is fantastic. It speaks volumes for the boy’s ability. There’s no one else in the game today who could do that. It’s just amazing.”

“He has the technique, but he practises those free-kicks a lot as we know. It’s one thing getting them on target, but then can you score?”

United went three points clear of nearest rivals Arsenal and five ahead of Chelsea, who could only draw 4-4 at Tottenham.

Fergie reckons the Blues may still decide where the title will end up.

“The team who is most consistent will win the league. If we can keep the consistency, we have a chance but I think Chelsea hold the key. (ANI)
