London - Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo was on Monday named FIFPro world player of the year.
The award, which is voted for by players in over 40 countries, is expected to be the first of many prizes recognising his achievements last season, when he scored 42 goals as United won the Premier League and Champions League.
The 23-year-old insists he is a better player now than he was when he joined Manchester United from Sporting five years ago.
"If you want to be good, you have to practise, not just in training but games as well. That is my style of football," he said.
"But I am different now compared to five years ago. Then I was dribbling but not doing anything for the team.
"Now I have more experience and I feel more mature. I do things for the team. So, sometimes I dribble, sometimes I don't." (dpa)
