Croatian star Modric joins Tottenham

London - Croatia playmaker Luka Modric has signed for Tottenham Hotspur, the club confirmed Saturday.
The Dinamo Zagreb star, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea before having talks with Newcastle United earlier in the week, will move for a fee believed to be around 16 million pounds (31.7 million dollars).
Personal terms have been agreed and, although he must still await a work permit, that should be a formality.
The signing of such a coveted player represents a major coup for Spurs manager Juande Ramos, and will do much to buoy the club after a disappointing league season. (dpa)
