Curtain drawn on South Asian Games, India finish at top Dhaka, Feb 9 : India finished with 175 medals, including 90 gold in the 11th South Asian Games here, underlining its supremacy as the regional sports powerhouse.

The Games came to an end with a glittering closing ceremony at Bangabandhu National Stadium here Tuesday in presence of Bangladesh president Zillur Rahman.

India finished with 90 gold, 55 silver and 30 bronze medals.

Pakistan came second with 19 gold, 25 silver and 36 bronze medals while hosts Bangladesh (18-23-56) finished third.

Bangladesh Army chief General M. Abdul Mubin, who is also the president of Bangladesh Olympic Association handed over the flag and torch to his Indian counterpart Suresh Kalmadi. India will host the next edition of the Games in 2012.

On the last day of the Games, India made a clean sweep in table tennis, winning seven gold and five silver medals in the competition.

Madhurika Patkar won three individual and one team gold medals. The men's and women's individual gold medals were won by Soumyadeep Roy and Madhurika. India also won gold medals in the women's doubles, men's doubles and mixed doubles events of table tennis competitions.(IANS)
