London, Apr 27 : Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is all set to go head-to-head with his Manchester United counterpart Alex Ferguson for 15 million pounds-rated Blackburn defender Phil Jones.
The Liverpool boss was at Ewood Park on Monday to watch the England Under-21 centre-back in action against Manchester City.
Jones (19) gave an impressive show during the match, which was attended by Dalglish along with director of football Damien Comolli.
The Liverpool boss faces a battle for the youngster, who has become one of the most wanted teenagers in the game.
Manchester United's interest in Jones is long established and they made inquiries last summer, with a view to a definite move at the end of the season.
Ferguson will have money to spend and sees Jones as the ideal long-term partner for Chris Smalling, 21.
Liverpool owners have told Dalglish that he will have cash to spend, and strengthening the club's defence is one of his major priorities. (ANI)
