Melbourne, Feb 8 - Australia's ODI and Twenty20 specialist David Hussey said he is still not giving up the hope of bagging his maiden baggy green.
The 34-year-old Hussey said the prospect of being dropped for the 15th time by the Australia's selectors was helping drive him to succeed at international level. He hoped it might even put him in calculations for Test selection and inclusion in the 2015 World Cup squad.
"Every innings is like a last innings for me. And you never know, if your name pops up at the right time, you might get that chance of playing Test cricket for Australia," Hussy was quoted as seying by Herald Sun.
"If you do well in the one-day arena you never know, doors may open ... It's very hard to drop somebody from a series win. I've probably been dropped about 14 times now, and I don't really want to be dropped again," he said.
Hussey said he seeks inspiration from elder brother Michael, who fought back last summer after critics called for him to be axed ahead of the Ashes series.
The 36-year-old Michael Hussey is averaging more than 47 across all forms of the game over the past 12 months.
"We're both stubborn people and if people say 'You're too old' or 'You've lost your form' or 'You're not good enough to play at that level', you get your back up and you really want to get out there and prove people wrong. We're very similar people in that way," David Hussey said
He made an impressive 61 not out in the opening match of the One-day series on Sunday, and will leave for Perth Wednesday for Friday's day-nighter against Sri Lanka.(IANS)
