England rugby stars facing rape probe in New Zealand

London, June 19 : Four England rugby stars are to be questioned by New Zealand detectives today over an alleged rape. A woman is reported to have told police that she was assaulted in a hotel room after the game against the All Blacks last weekend.

She is said to have gone back to the England team’s hotel in Auckland in the early hours of Sunday after their Test match defeat.

Team boss Rob Andrew said: “While no formal complaint has been made, we are co-operating with police in their inquiries.”

Team chiefs quizzed the unmarried players -- on tour in Auckland, New Zealand -- over the alleged sex attack.

The players said that the 18-year-old girl had been eager to have sex with one man in his Hilton Hotel suite, and claimed she did not object when his pal arrived from the next room to join in.

Two more England aces were quizzed after it was said they saw sex acts involving the girl. The watching pair, also single, were not suspected of being directly involved in the alleged offences, The Sun reported.

A source said that two players admitted three-in-a-bed sex with the girl, and added that the girl pursued them from the start and phoned the Hilton to find where they were drinking.

The players claim the girl was calm and in good spirits when she left early on Sunday.

But hours later team chiefs had a call from police revealing a “serious allegation” of a sex attack had been made.

The alleged victim had yet to make a formal complaint last night. Six girls are believed to have gone to the Hilton after meeting players in a club. (ANI)
