England spinner Swann happy Premier League club buying IPL team

England spinner Swann happy Premier League club buying IPL teamLondon, Feb 17 : England spinner Graeme Swann is happy over reports of a Premier League football club buying an Indian Premier League team, provided it is not Sunderland.

Manchester City may take an Indian Premier League franchise, The Sun reports.

Next year the IPL tournament will expand to 10 teams from the current eight. And the England spinner reckons a link-up between the two sports could be a winner.

“It would be great. I’d happily play cricket for Newcastle United. It can’t be Sunderland - they will be bankrupt soon like the rest of them! he joked.

“Seriously, it’s interesting. I’m surprised as I’d have thought Prem clubs would have debt concerns at the moment.

“Though I guess with guys coming in from Abu Dhabi buying teams like Manchester City, they’re going to have one eye on cricket,” he added.

Swann himself was in the last IPL auction.

He was handicapped, however, by only being available for three weeks due to the Bangladesh tour, so he went unsigned. (ANI)
