Melbourne, Feb. 13 : Former Australian cricketer Cameron White has become the second Australian representative to have encountered a comical pitch malfunction while searching for form in club cricket.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, on Saturday, the Premier Cricket match between Prahran and Richmond at Toorak Park was halted after just nine deliveries when Prahran all-rounder Daniel Salpietro, who was in the field but had yet to bowl, became suspicious about the length of the pitch.
His doubt was verified, as a re-measurement confirmed the crease was at least a metre too deep at each end.
White, who had yet to bat for Richmond and later made 147 when the error was corrected, chortled about the incident being another example of "the things that happen in club cricket".
"The bowlers thought there was something a bit wrong," White said, adding "They got the tape measure out and found it was too long. We had to restart the game after they re-marked the wicket." (ANI)
