Rio de Janeiro, Jan 30 - On the same day that star goalie Rogerio Ceni left the hospital after arthroscopic surgery, Sao Paulo striker Luis Fabiano is awaiting his injury results.
Thus far in 2012, seven members of Sao Paulo's starting roster suffered serious injuries.
In the first half of Sao Pualo's 2-1 win against Sao Caetano in the third round of the Sao Paulo state championship, Fabiano scored his first goal of the season. However, minutes later, he fell to the ground with pain in his right thigh.
Fabiano was taken to a hospital where doctors will not attempt to diagnose the injury until Monday, allowing time for the swelling to decrease.
Sao Paulo's Rogerio Ceni is expected to miss next six months of action in recuperation.
Additionally, recent arrival Jadson is unable to play, seen as out of shape after returning to Brazil from playing abroad.
Full-backs Rholdolfo and Paulo Miranda are currently injured as are midfielders Fabricio and Canete.
Due the large number of injuries so early in the season, head coach Emerson Leao is contemplating pulling out all of his usual starters from the state championship in an attempt to preserve them.
With 60 percent of his regular starters currently injured, Leao congratulated the club's cast of reserve players, leading the club to three victories in three games played in the Sao Paulo state championship. (IANS)
