Federer, Nadal stalled by Canadian rain

Federer, Nadal stalled by Canadian rainToronto - Top seed Roger Federer and number two Rafael Nadal lead a list of eight of the top ten seeds caught out by a day of rain on Wednesday at the Toronto Masters.

The elite pair were reduced to killing time along with dozens of other colleagues as a band of heavy rain prevented all but two games being played by mid-afternoon.

Federer and Wimbledon champion Nadal have yet to play after first-round byes and face a packed-out schedule on court once the weather clears this week.

In the only match which took to the court, fifth seed David Ferrer of Spain and American Robby Ginepri stood level 1-all after eight minutes of play.

Officials re-jigged a programme of 15 matches, preparing to shift them onto six courts around the grounds if the rain moves on.

Third-seeded defending champion Novak Djokovic was safely through after beating Canadian Frank Dancevic 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday night. (dpa)
