London, Oct. 29 : Coach Alex Ferguson has backed his star striker Wayne Rooney to beat the Everton hate mob today.
The Manchester United boss pulled Rooney out of last year''s trip to Goodison because of the abuse he would face after stories about his private life.
He also spared him at Anfield this season until he came on as a sub following his three-game England ban.
Now, according to The Sun, Fergie will throw him back into the lions'' den at Goodison today where the fans have not forgiven him for turning his back on the club to join United.
Ferguson was quoted as saying: "You know what fans are like. He''s a traitor as far as they''re concerned and he''s never going to change that. He''s well used to that, it''s not a problem. I don''t think people thrive on abuse but you can cope with it."
Fergie believes that often the Goodison crowd can make Rooney''s challenges seem an awful lot worse than they are.
The United boss said: "With the hype around the ground, he''s going to be booed every time he makes a challenge.”
United are looking to bounce back in the league after a 6-1 mauling in the Manchester derby at home last Sunday. (ANI)
