FIFA and UEFA reject Polish suspension of football board

Hamburg  - Football's world governing body FIFA and European ruling body UEFA said Tuesday they did not recognize a decision in Poland to suspend the leadership of the Polish football federation.

"FIFA and UEFA do not recognize either the decision by the arbitration court of the Polish National Olympic Committee, or the appointment of an "administrator" of the (football federation) PZPN," a statement said.

PZPN has been suspended by an arbitration court of the nation's Olympic Committee, which appointed Robert Zawlocki temporary head of the PZPN.

It followed a motion from the sports ministry which has long been dissatisfied with the PZPN's handling of corruption in Polish football.

Zawlocki, who formerly was a member of the PZPN disciplinary committee, then suspended PZPN boss Michel Listkiewicz and the rest of the board.

However both FIFA and UEFA said they continued to recognise the current leadership of the PZPN chaired by Michal Listkiewicz "as the only legitimate authority to run football in Poland and to represent it internationally." (dpa)
