Rome - Samples taken from cyclists at the Giro d'Italia will not be retested for the latest generation of the blood booster EPO, CERA, Italian news reports said on Friday.
The Giro director Angelo Zomegnan was quoted in Friday's La Gazzetta dello Sport as saying that there was no necessity to retest the samples.
"The anti-doping laboratory in Rome did not find a single CERA case and no indication that there could have been CERA doping."
The statement came after retests for CERA (Continuous Erythropoiesis Receptor Activator), saw three Tour de France riders test positive: Riccardo Ricci, Leonardo Piepolo (both Italy) and Stefan Schumacher (Germany).
The International Olympic Committee also plans retests for substances including CERA from samples gathered at the Beijing Games.
Zomegnan also confirmed that they had issued seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong with an invitation to race in next year's Giro.
Armstrong, who recently announced that he was coming out of retirement, has never taken part in the Giro, but said that he would like to participate in 2009.
The 37-year-old, who has not competed in any races for three years, said that his Tour de France preparations would benefit from as many competitive races as possible.
Armstrong, who has signed for the Astana team, will start his comeback by participating in the Tour Down Under in Australia in January. (dpa)
