Seekirchen, Austria - Greek football officials on Thursday dismissed reports that leading players have demanded a more offensive game plan in a meeting with coach Otto Rehhagel in the wake of an opening Euro 2008 disaster.
Team spokesman Michael Tsalpidis said such a meeting did not take place.
Rehhagel was heavily criticised - by the media and also indirectly by some players - for fielding five defenders in the first game with Sweden which the surprise 2004 champions nonetheless lost 2-0.
The next games are against Russia and Spain as the holders face an uphill battle to survive the group stage.
But Rehhagel insisted that at least half of the team had not followed his instructions. He also said: "Of course we want to score as well, but we don't have the same attacking potential as Germany."
Rehhagel has not revealed his lineup for the match with Russia on Saturday but is expected to return to a four-man defensive scheme.
Greece has not won against Russia in almost 15 years and also conceded its only Euro 2004 defeat against them in the group stage.
But Greek football supremo Vassilis Gagatsis remained upbeat, telling Greek radio: "It is not over yet. We can still make the quarter-finals. I am absolutely convinced." (dpa)
