Hamburg - SV Hamburg Wednesday signed Germany defender Marcell Jansen from Bayern Munich and Brazilian Alex Silva from Sao Paulo in a double transfer swoop.
Jansen leaves Bayern after only one season in a move which comes as a surprise.
The 22-year-old left back will be officially presented at the club on Thursday and could make his debut on Saturday against Arminia Bielefeld.
Both Jansen and Silva join on five-year contracts. No details of the transfer sum for Jansen was initially revealed.
Hamburg chairman Bernd Hoffman said the club was continuing its policy of signing ambitious players with promising futures.
Jansen, a member of Germany's squad at Euro 2008, helped Bayern win the league and cup double last season after joining from Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Bayern coach Juergen Klinsmann has however preferred to play Philipp Lahm in the left-back position this season.
Hamburg have agreed a fee of 6.2 million euros (9.12 million dollars) for central defender Silva, 23, with 50 per cent of the fee received in any later sale going to the player's agent.
He will join the club in two weeks after playing for Brazil. Silva has earned three full international caps and played all five games for the national side appearing at the Beijing Olympics. (dpa)
