Injury-prone Lee “happy” with Test retirement call

Brett LeeSydney, July 18 : Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has said that he is "happy" with his decision to retire from Tests.

Lee has faded into oblivion after suffering multiple injuries. He had earlier missed last year's Ashes due to a side strain and underwent an elbow surgery last December.

"It will be different when Australia plays for the Ashes and I'm not a part of it, but I'm happy with the call. There is not one little part of me that asks at night if I made the right decision," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Lee, as saying.

"Could I have played another year of Test cricket? I think yes. It was more a lifestyle choice, as well as looking after my body. I realized to continue playing at international level I had to cut my losses, and giving away Test cricket seemed the most logical thing," he added.

The 33-year-old also said that he took the decision to spend more time with his family, especially his son.

"Most importantly, though, I did not want to spend 300 days a year away from my son Preston. My body is going to thank me. No matter what I've been through, the operations and the setbacks, I'm not injury prone," Lee said.

Lee had earlier said that he may retire from all forms of the game after the 2011 World Cup to be held in the Indian subcontinent.

"To me a world cup in India in 2011, because of my love for India and the stuff I do over there, it would be a great way to finish, I would have thought," Lee said.

The World Cup will be held next February and March in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. (ANI)
