Milan - Serie A champions Inter Milan Wednesday played down through their web site the amount their new coach Jose Mourinho claimed to be earning during a press conference.
Mourinho, 45, challenged a journalist to name a line-up for a game without having to criticize it later. The journalist said he would take the challenge if the coach gave him part of the 9 million euros (12.6 million dollars) he earns at Inter.
"They are not 9, but 11, and adding the sponsors I get to 14 millions," Mourinho replied.
"Inter and Jose Mourinho want to state that none of the amounts mentioned (Tuesday) ... reflects the contract they signed, which is much lower," the Milanese club said.
Earlier reports that Inter pay Mourinho 9 million euros per season on a three-year-contract had not been contested. (dpa)
