Beijing - Some 1,500 doping tests have so far been carried out at the Beijing Olympics, with one confirmed positive, the International Olympic Committee announced on Tuesday.
IOC spokeswoman Giselle Davies said the 1,500 tests concerned blood and urine samples. Spanish cyclist Maria Isabel Moreno was on Monday revealed to have tested positive for the blood booster EPO.
The IOC is carrying out its biggest ever anti-doping drive, with 4,500 tests earmarked from July 27 until the end of the Games on August 24, up from 3,500 in Athens four years ago.
The top five finishers from all 302 events and others chosen at random are tested, and the IOC also is also carrying our regular out- of-competition and target tests in Beijing. (dpa)
