Kapil - led squad leaves for London to relive 83' gloryNew Delhi, Jun 24 :After being felicitated at home, the Kapil Dev-led Indian team that won the 1983 World Cup headed for London today, to celebrate the silver jubilee of that historic triumph at Lord's.

The team left without Ravi Shastri for the British capital, where they would relive that precious moment of their respective cricketing careers.

Before the team's departure, Kapil and his mates cut a cake and thanked Air India for making their departure "a momentous occasion even though 25 years have lapsed."

Earlier on June 22, the winning squad of 1983 was given a grand reception at the Darbar Hall of the Taj Palace Hotel.

In the presence of former and present-day cricketers and guests, the team relived their achievement of 25 years ago.

Apart from Kapil, Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, K. Srikkanth, Ravi Shastri, some of the other Indian captains who attended the felicitation function were, Ajit Wadekar, G. R. Viswanath and Mohammad Azharuddin. Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid too joined the proceedings.

India beat West Indies by 43 runs on June 25, 1983 to win the World Cup final.

After loosing the toss, India was asked to bat first. It managed to put 183 in 54.4 overs on the scoreboard. In reply, West Indies was bowled out for 140 runs in 52 overs. Mohinder Amarnath was declared the Man of the Match. (ANI)
