Karachi cricket board joins chorus baying for PCB chief Ijaz Butt’s blood

Karachi cricket board joins chorus baying for PCB chief Ijaz Butt’s bloodKarachi, Aug 13 : A day after the Chairman of Pakistan National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports appealed to President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) patron Asif Ali Zardari to remove PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt, the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) has now joined the chorus.

KCCA Senior Vice President Khalil Ahmed Nainitalwala said that Butt should be removed for bringing the game into disrepute in the last couple of months.

“We humbly appeal to President of Pakistan to sack PCB chief Ijaz Butt to save the game of cricket from further disaster,” The Daily Times quoted Nainitalwala, as saying.

Nainitalwala accused Butt of nepotism, abuse of power and poor administration that has made Pakistan cricket a laughing stock worldwide.

“Enough is enough and its time for Ijaz to be shown the door as he has made mockery of Pakistan cricket,” he added.

He also criticised the selection of Pakistan team currently on tour in England, calling it an injustice to players from Karachi.

“A number of talented cricketers from Karachi have been neglected. The team’s recent showings in England prove that merit was not followed in team selection,” Nainitalwala said.

Earlier, in a two-page letter written to the President, Chairman of Pakistan National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports, Iqbal Mohammad Ali, had said that Butt’s administration has seen the team reduced to the status of ‘minnows’.

“The chairman and his close aides have shoddily let down your confidence in them by making a mockery of management ethics at the board. It is therefore recommended that a very dynamic and energetic administrator be made the chairman of the board so that the affairs of cricket in Pakistan are run professionally,” Ali said.

“The incompetence of Ijaz has already brought enough shame for our country at international level,” he added.

The board has also seen through five different Test captains in just over a year - Shoaib Malik, Younus Khan, Mohammed Yousuf, Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt - and Ali said that Butt and the management were responsible for such a ‘comedy of errors’. (ANI)
