London, Aug 8: English heptathlete Kelly Sotherton has found a rather unusual way to strike gold at this year’s Olympics – by eating baby food.
Sotherton, who won a bronze in Athens four years ago, knows that if she can improve on her weakest event, javelin, she would take home a gold medal.
And to make sure she gets one, the 31-year-old has brought a few home comforts with her to Beijing, including supplies of baby food.
“When you are competing it’s so hard to digest solid food, so eating pureed stuff is easier,” The Sun quoted her, as saying.
“For two days my diet is made up of liquids like pureed fruit, jelly babies, jaffa cakes and yoghurts. I carry a little snack pack of jaffa cakes for my competitions.
“My belief is I can win gold. You’ve got to believe it. I’ve not just come here to take part and make the top eight. That’s not my aim.
“Until I win gold at that level I cannot imagine what it would be like. The Commonwealth doesn’t count really.
“I dream about a gold medal every day, all day. Gold medals are tattooed on my brain!
“But I’ve still got to go out there and win it and perform.
“There are about five or six of us who could win that gold medal, so it is going to be ultra-competitive and that’s what I like,” she added. (ANI)
