race at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park Saturday, coming from behind to finish ahead of Canada's Adam van Koeverden.
Wallace trailed defending Olympic champion van Koeverden at the halfway stage but finished the stronger to claim victory in a time of 1 minute 37.252 seconds.
Great Britain's Tim Brabants, winner of Friday's 1,000m K1 race, had to be satisfied with bronze. (dpa)
